Follow the Events Dress Code!
There is no denying that dressing for a wedding/elopement event can be confusing. In fact, brides will oftentimes implement a guest dress code! It is essential to adhere to these dress codes to ensure that the Bride’s special day is exactly as she imagines it! Some popular dress codes include:
- Black Tie
- Men: Tuxedo, black bow tie, black vest
- Women: Formal floor-length gown
- Formal
- Men: Tuxedos are optional (however still appropriate)
- Women: Floor-length gown, formal cocktail dress, pantsuit
- Cocktail
- Men: Suit & tie or formal blazer
- Women: Tea-length, knee-length, or midi dress
- Casual
- Men: Khakis and a collared shirt
- Women: Casual knee-length/midi dress or sundress
When in doubt, consult the bride!
What to Wear to a Wedding Reception
The number one detail to consider when choosing an outfit for a reception is adhering to the set dress code! Dinner parties and wedding receptions will oftentimes have a dress code to ensure that guest’s outfits are cohesive! After determining which type of dress code is fitting for the occasion, you will want to evaluate the finer details of the party. Will there be dancing? If so, consider reaching for an outfit that is non-constricting and will allow you to groove on the dance floor. Will they be serving a heavy meal? If so, consider wearing an outfit that will still be comfortable to wear after enjoying a large dinner!
Although dressing for a dinner party/wedding reception can be confusing, follow the set dress code and consider those finer details, and you will be right as rain!
What to Wear to an Elopement
The number one detail to consider for an elopement celebration is comfort. Here in Montana, couples will often elope in secluded locations of our national parks (i.e. Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park), and as such, you will commonly have to hike up to the intended elopement site. Take this factor into consideration as you choose your outfit for an elopement ceremony, you don’t want to be dressed uncomfortably while trekking through the mountains! During a national park elopement, it is typical to adhere to a casual dress code, however, check with the bride, she may have other ideas!
It is also common for couples to elope at a courthouse, in this case, you should dress in business attire!
What to Wear to an Outdoor Wedding
Here in the big sky state, it is very typical of couples to have an outdoor wedding! Heck, why wouldn’t you with such beautiful Montana scenery! Once again, it is essential that you adhere to the occasion’s set dress code, and plan an outfit that coordinates with the brides’ expectations! You don’t want to show up in jeans while there is a formal dress code! At outdoor weddings, you must consider the weather! Dress in layers, and/or bring a jacket in case some cooler weather rolls in. Be prepared for some unexpected weather and wear comfortable, nature-proof footwear. You’ll thank us later!
Get outside and celebrate those newlyweds comfortably!
What to Wear to a Winter Wedding
Winter weddings can be tricky. Although most winter ceremonies and receptions are hosted inside, it is essential to consider travel in your outfit decisions. Traveling to and from the venue is oftentimes cold, while the indoor space is typically warm, so it is essential to dress in layers! We recommend adding cold weather essentials (coats, shawls, scarves, etc.) to your event outfit, as well as wearing comfortable/weather-proof shoes, or bringing a change of shoes so that you can both boogie on the dance floor, and successfully trek through the Montana snow!
There is nothing quite like a winter wedding in Montana, but they do make picking an outfit more difficult! You got this, we believe in you!
